XenBuild

Visual product and project management

This is XenBuild

XenBuild is a SaaS I built and a service I offered that visualizes a software product in the way that CAD visualizes a physical product. It simultaneously allows those working directly on the product to see the picture and those in leadership to see the ground-level view. The view you see is the evolution of an e-commerce project from inception to launch

How does XenBuild work?

Each major screen or page in the app is inventoried.

The same information architecture is overlaid with different data to allow diverse functions at the company to track relevant information while sharing a common frame of truth.

Object type

Each object in your product is classified by its functional category. This allows you to see at a glance the overall structure of your product, where the information architecture is more complex, or where all the user interactions take place.

XenBuild ties the tool chain together

If you need information, such as status, design details, or an overview of bugs, you need to meet with a subject matter expert, because that information is buried in this or that repository, and if you don't know how it's organized, you'll never find it.

XenBuild provides a single framework that all functions understand, helping you get to the information you need. Click on the product component you want to learn about, and link to all relevant repositories, like Jira, Figma, Slack, or GitHub.

XenBuild case studies

Here are a two real-life projects where XenBuild made a difference.

VideoShops.com

XenBuild's visualization system enabled me to get VideoShops unstuck. The company had technology but no product. XenBuild speed up the process of revealing the gaps, and then planning a pivot. It played a key role in the company's successful second round of funding and launch.

DSDLink.com

XenBuild was created to solve a specific problem. We had to launch an all-new e-commerce experience with no project management. I came up with this visualization system to create a single source of truth to harmonize the design and development teams. We kept the product map updated and were able to track progress and make accurate forecasts to the C-level. The product launched ahead of schedule and under budget.

Where is XenBuild now?

XenBuild is being rebuilt with an entirely new code base that will be shared with Historigraph. It will be more robust and versatile.
