Step 2: Identified the organizational challenge

The company had no UX division

When I began working with VideoShops, there was no UX leadership. A VP of product was being sought and would show up several months later. A revolving door of freelance UX designers had come and gone, leaving little continuity and giving no voice to user experience. There was nobody around to do user research. I was hired when the CTO realized that the neglect of UX was a primary cause of the product woes, and tasked with bringing order to the UX situation.

I started looking for the root cause of the problem

What I found was that the rudderless design team had no organizational system and nobody really knew what anybody else was doing. This led to a solipsism in the Figma space where documents were only designed for consumption by their creator. A result of this was files with numerous duplicate screens, as well as entire redundant files, with no clear idea of which was supposed to be the current documentation of any given feature.
